This year's program will offer four asynchronous sessions tackling key college counseling topics. On Monday, September 30, all asynchronous sessions will be released. Each one will be around an hour in length. Participants can watch these videos at their leisure any time between September 30, 2024 to December 31, 2024. Each session features experienced OACAC members from around the state sharing their experiences and best practices on each topic. To earn the certificate, participants will watch all four asynchronous sessions and respond to a brief knowledge-check questionnaire after each session. Participants who complete and submit all four questionnaires will receive an official certificate from OACAC in early 2025.
Which topics will be covered?
Terminology & Timelines
Financial Aid & Affordability
Building a College List
The Common App & Other "Common Apps"
If you participated in the 2022 series, these topics may look familiar. Please know that although we covered these topics in 2022, this year's videos were recorded in August 2024 with a whole new team of panelists. We believe these four topics could be considered the "cornerstone" or the "basics" of college advising. As such, relevant details about these topics change year over year. We wanted to take the time to update the information shared in these sessions. Our panelists this year have a different perspective, new information, updated key takeaways, and more (mostly free) resources to share with you! Detailed session descriptions can be found here.
How can I participate?
Join or renew your membership now to enjoy this 100% free membership benefit. If you know someone who is interested in the program but is not yet an OACAC member, you can encourage them to join OACAC!
Not planning to join OACAC? The fee is $50.00 payable only online.
Who should participate?
Newer high school or college counselors, community-based organization members or advisors, and independent counselors will find it particularly useful. Experienced school counselors, community organization members, and independent counselors might find it helpful to address Standard 6 of the OSCES Evaluation. This series will provide you with four contact hours for professional development purposes.
